Being native to Hungary, my husband and I were among the few people who raised their hands when the speaker of The Rodeo Austin had the question “Who is first time visitor of the rodeo in Texas?” Last Sunday we had the great chance to watch rodeo performances and Willie Nelson show at Travis County Exposition Center in Austin. Even though Hungarians are also famous all around the world for their traditions and heritage of horse breeding, we shared such a breathtaking experience at the arena.
Hungarian horsemen were and are among the most known professionals in the world. Our horse breeding traditions go back to the 9th century. Arpad, the leader of the first Hungarian settlers, founded the first herd after arriving to the Carpathian Basin. The Golden Age was in the 19-20th centuries when there were as many private herds as government owned ones in Hungary. If you are interested in genuine Hungarian horse species, we recommend that lipicai, nóniusz, hucul, muraközi, kisbéri félvér and shagya-arab be googled on websites. You can see stunningly beautiful pictures.
The world famous pusztaötös - one single man (csikós) rides 5 horses (without saddle) standing on their back - can be seen every year on several events in Hungary.
Back to Austin, Texas!
I can't remember how many times we planned to visit a real rodeo in Texas. Plus both of us are big fans of Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, so last week we luckily managed to find two tickets to the Rodeo Austin and Willie Nelson show. Sunday afternoon we checked that Texas cowboys and cowgirls are very talented and brave riders. Rodeo events were amazing and exciting, we had so much fun. My husband had hundreds of shots.
Willie Nelson and Family (with Johnny Depp) Show was such an outstanding performance. The Austin's Icon and legendary musician was unbelievable! We also admired the way he is able to enthrall and whirl the audience.
